Peter  Blake  RA

b. 1932

Blake studied at Gravesend School of Art (1949-51) and the RCA (1953-56). Blake is considered by many to have paved the way for the British Pop Art movement and is famed for his paintings, prints and collages, including works such as his design for the Beatles' "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album cover in 1967.

Blake was elected RA in 1981 and retrospectives of his work have been held at the City Art Gallery, Bristol (1969), the Tate Gallery, London (1983) and the National Gallery, London (1996).
