2007 was a momentous year for Konstantin Bessmertny. A large retrospective of his work was mounted at the Macau Museum of Art affording a glimpse of his wide-ranging talent. An exploding roulette volcano, an upturned ‘Miracle’ Blackjack table and a disembodied hand protruding from the wall took their places alongside his more familiar large scale group portraits and tongue in cheek Ambience paintings.
The opening of this exhibition in May was followed by the grand opening of the 52nd Biennale di Venezia in June where Bessmertny joined a stellar line up of international artists as Macau’s official selection at their inaugural participation at this prestigious art event.
Amelia Johnson Contemporary is proud to be presenting this exhibition in early 2008 in what will be Konstantin Bessmertny’s largest and most important solo exhibition of new work produced to date. Followers of his work will be delighted and enthralled by the experience whilst newcomers to his works will fall in love with the witty and unique creations on show. More will be revealed in the New Year. In the meantime, keep the date for one of the most original artists working in Asia today.
